Description

What type of wine is it

Velenosi's Rosso Piceno Superiore Roggio del Filare is a red wine from the Marche region characterised by a significant structure. Produced from a blend of Montepulciano and Sangiovese, it appears as a vivid ruby red colour with elegant garnet highlights. On the nose, it expresses an intense and complex bouquet, featuring notes of blackberry, plum and ripe cherry, accompanied by nuances of sweet spices and coffee. On the palate, it is enveloping and powerful, with well-matured tannins that create a perfect balance between the fruity component and the notes from barrel ageing, offering a persistent and elegant finish.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from vineyards located between Offida, Castorano and Ascoli Piceno, in highly suited soils. The soils of Offida are predominantly clay and limestone, while the Ascoli area is characterised by a medium texture with a tendency towards sandy soil. This pedoclimatic diversity contributes to the aromatic richness of the grapes. Training using the Guyot system allows yields to be kept low, concentrating nutrients in the clusters to offer a faithful and authentic expression of the characteristics of this territory.

How it is produced

Production begins with the harvest carried out in mid-October. After de-stemming, fermentation in steel takes place at a controlled temperature. This is followed by maceration on the skins for about twenty days, with constant pump-overs to achieve optimal extraction of colour and structure. The process concludes with a period of about eighteen months in new French oak barrels. This ageing gives breadth and smoothness to the palate, harmonising the freshness of the fruit with the spicy notes imparted by the wood.
